Art was immensely important to the Romans. It wasn’t, as it is today, an optional interest, but a fully integrated societal tool, which would be used to demonstrate one’s wealth, enhance one’s political power, and help one to gain the favour of the gods.
I have been studying Roman art for a good few weeks now, and I hope that my fascination will interest you guys! From bronze and marble sculpture 10ft tall, to illusionistic 3D domestic wall paintings, to floor mosaics and busts of emperors, Roman art is is a hugely diverse area, and better than that, from it we can learn more about the everyday lives of one of the greatest peoples ever to have have lived.
